We Happy People

We Happy People is the name of the second season of Sands of Time dramedy series set in the heart of modern-day Lagos. It follows the intertwined lives of a group of survivors, and reluctant dreamers trying to make sense of life, love, and Lagos traffic – all while navigating the complex dance between poverty and pride, tradition and transition, secrets and self-discovery.

At its heart is Obi, a kind-hearted but illiterate man from Abia State, who arrives in Lagos in a panic after discovering that his wife is pregnant with sextuplets. Overwhelmed by fear, poverty, and the pressure of fatherhood, Obi hopes to disappear into the chaos of the city, only to find himself entangled in the lives of people who are just as lost, just as hopeful, and just as desperate to keep going.

There’s Yemi, a young man trying to find himself after discovering a secret that would change his life forever. Son of Senator Tunde, Yemi is a misfit in elite circles and a stranger in working-class ones, but he finds unexpected solace in the broken-yet-beautiful family that takes him in.

And then there’s Mama Bornboy, the no-nonsense mother of two, who carries her trauma like a handbag – loud, ever-present, and slightly mismatched. Her tough love, sharp tongue, and chaotic family become a gravitational force around which others orbit. Together, these characters explore the beautiful contradictions of life in Lagos. Through humour, heartbreak, and hard choices, We Happy People reveals how even the most unlikely of people can become each other’s family.
